COUNCIL
SAYS 'YES'
Griffith
City Council has agreed to all of the requests
put to them by the Youth Speak Out Team with everything
set to commence within the next month.
The
Youth Speak Out Team asked for:
- $1 entry to the
Griffith Regional Leisure and Aqutic Centre
every Sunday with a once a month BBQ and Band
to be organised
- Maintenance and
a shade sail for the Skate Park
- $2 entry to Westend Stadium every Saturday
for a non-competitive sport day and access to
all equipment
- The use of the Griffith Regional Theatre once
a year for a Youth Variety night
According to Val Rowe who along with Mark Taylor
from the Griffith Skills Training Centre oversaw
the meetings, the Youth Speak Out Team are ecstatic
and didn't think they would get anything.
"I think it's a good start, because yes
it does address the boredom issues and it creates
a bit of self motivation and self esteem which
I think has been missing for quite a while,"
said Val.
Tenille Scarfone, who is part of the Youth Speak
Out Team said the Council were more than reasonable
with our ideas and it will be good to see it up
and running.
Spanline Griffith has come on board to help with
the shade sail and may launch a competition for
the youth to design a shade structure to keep
them involved in the project.
Meanwhile the Youth Speak Out Team will continue
to meet untal all the requests have been implemented
and are running smoothly and Val feels confident
that more ideas will come along.
They
will be handed in at another meeting to be held
on February 27.
