BOREDOM
AN ISSUE FOR YOUTHS
BOREDOM
has been identified as one of the biggest issues
facing Griffith youth following the first ever
Speak Out meeting held on Tuesday.
The
meeting held at Griffith Skills Training Centre,
was the first step in a new initiative which is
hoped will help create harmony in the city.
The
idea, put forward by Suicide Awareness president
Val Rowe and Griffith Skills Training Centre's
Mark Taylor, was to give young people in Griffith
the opportunity to have their say about their
future.
"It
was a really good night," Mrs Rowe said.
"We
had more than 20 keen youths ranging in ages from
12 up to 21 and they identified boredom as a big
issue - they said they need more to do. They were
pleased that we had thought to include them and
ask for input. Some of the things they spoke about
are simple and very achievable, which is a great
start."
During
the meeting, questionnaires were handed out asking
for ideas from Griffith's youth.
They
will be handed in at another meeting to be held
on February 27.
